Gain collegiate-level English proficiency in as little as one semester



UC studentThe Intensive English Language Program at Utica College offers you the opportunity to develop English language proficiency, mastering the listening, reading, writing, and speaking skills necessary to succeed in American college classes. The program provides:
  • 20-25 hours of course instruction per week
  • Highly qualified and experienced faculty
  • Small classes with lots of personal attention
  • Preparation for academic success in college
  • Cultural orientation and field trips to cultural and historical sites
  • Vibrant international community on and off campus 

Enrollment Requirements


Do you need to improve your English so that you can understand lectures and write the papers that American professors want?  Have you already achieved high intermediate to advanced level proficiency in English?  If so, this program is your next step.  You can complete the Intensive English Language Program in one or two semesters, depending on your current level of proficiency, and then move directly into an undergraduate program at Utica College.  When you arrive, we'll give you a placement exam so that we know exactly what skills you need to develop to achieve your goals. And we can tell you how long it should take you.

Comprehensive Academic Curriculum


You will work on improving your English while Class at UClearning about a variety of subjects that interest you - giving you the opportunity to explore many possible areas of study.  You will read real articles, listen to real lectures, and participate in real discussions as you improve your vocabulary and skills in writing and presenting.

Integration into Campus Life


You may live on campus, in residence halls with American students and participate in campus activities and sports, just like matriculated students do. You can join other international students visiting the many historical, cultural, and natural attractions in upstate New York such as Fort Stanwix, Niagara Falls, and the Adirondack Mountains.
